Welcome to Treaty 8

Signed in 1899, Treaty 8 is the largest land treaty in Canada, covering over 841,000 km² across northern Alberta, northwestern Saskatchewan, northeastern British Columbia, and the southwestern Northwest Territories. It was established to secure land for development while promising First Nations, including Cree, Dene, and Dane-zaa, rights to hunt, trap, and fish on unoccupied Crown lands.
